Way Back The History Of Professional Wrestling

By Imelda Reid

Every person is given a set of different abilities and gifts. Though each has a different ability or gift, there is always a purpose behind the matter. But then, there is always this matter with humans which just cannot get to accept this fact. That is why in this world where humans dwell, you will see the evident clamor for satisfaction especially for superiority.

Speaking of this, there are so many areas in which men would like to put themselves in. There are those who would like to the most beautiful, the most popular, the most influential, or the richest. But among these things, you will find one common aspiration, and that is power. This is what you will see in competitive sports like wrestling if you get to know of the history of professional wrestling.

Speaking about wrestling, there is nothing you can ever think of but a violent fight showing the physical fortress of the contenders. And since it is a competition, you will see an even bloodier combat. Each competitor uses his most violent attack to turn over the other. And given the inspiration of being acknowledged as more superior, you will see them showing no mercy to their opponent.

With this, you would already be able to make out what scene will take place on the stage. Basically, there would really be a heated competition. So if you are a type of person who is magnanimous, this kind of scene is not fit for you. You have to be tough like the Romans from the time before who liked seeing torture scenes in the arena.

For the modern world, where things like that, have been diminished, this is already quite uncomfortable to look at. But then the only good thing about this is that there are no weapons used, only physical strength. Like the hero in the English folk tale Beowulf, the contenders will just have to make use of your bare hands and body to defeat their opponent.

So basically, the contenders could only use grappling style techniques like fighting, throws, takedowns, clinch, joint locks, pins, as well as other grappling holds. Now, this sport is good for two players. But on some occasions more competitors join on the stage. Each of which are aspiring to gain the superior position among the others.

With this, you can see that it is very different from other combat sports like kung fu, karate, fencing, and boxing. But some of the styles in this sport are actually infused in some forms of martial arts and military hand to hand combat. Basically, the moves in wrestling is practically what an enraged person will do in response for defense.

You can attest to this due to the references it has in literature. One proven existence of this endeavor in the early years is the Iliad where Homer recounted the happenings in the Trojan War during the twelfth or thirteenth century. Actually, the origin of this endeavor has been known from the cave drawings which have been identified to have dated back fifteen thousand years back.

Given that time frame, this style of combat has been developed to a professional sport. There has been two styles which were used now. One is the freestyle and the other is the Greco Roman. Over the years, it was developed until in the twentieth century, it became a popular entertainment in Europe, America, and Japan.
